Workshop: Parenting in the Real World

Let’s face it—parenting is tough. And it’s not always clear what to do. Parents are bombarded with conflicting advice on how to better raise their children. There are more books on parenting than any one person could read in their lifetime. At the same time, parents raise their children  in the face of enormous pressures: financial concerns, work demands, family problems, and so on. Instead of offering yet another list of tips on better parenting, this workshop will suggest a simple but powerful practice. It will teach you to respond to any parenting dilemma with three simple steps: 1. Press pause, 2. Notice what’s going on, and 3. Choose your response. It’s a practice that helps parents respond more effectively to their emotional reactions while taking action based on their values. In this way, parents can choose to be who they want to be in any parenting moment, whether it’s a blissful day at the park or a total meltdown at the supermarket.

Presenter Bio:
Chinwé Williams, Ph.D., is a respected Board-Certified (NCC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who delivers engaging presentations with energy and warmth. In each presentation, Dr. Williams motivates audience members to be introspective and focused on what matters most personally and professionally. Dr. Williams specializes in stress and anxiety management, leadership development, and mental and emotional wellness. Her 18 years of professional experience spans work in public schools, university systems, hospitals, ministry organizations, and corporate work settings.

Presenter Bio:
Dr. Sheva is a licensed clinical psychologist and maintains a private practice specializing in working with adults. Sheva completed her graduate training at Pepperdine University. She has worked in various mental health settings, including the VA Health Care System and other large hospital systems in California, with individuals from diverse clinical and cultural communities. Sheva most recently served as a Senior Staff Psychologist at the University of California, Irvine. She has a particular interest in destigmatizing mental health, focusing on mental health prevention, and equipping individuals with effective strategies for holistic wellness.
